Position Summary:   The Assistant Chief Engineer reports directly to the Property Chief Engineer and is responsible for assigned aspects of the Property Operations department to include proper operation, maintenance and repair of all heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and mechanical equipment.  Develops, coordinate and monitors a maintenance program to ensure the safety and comfort of all staff and guests.  Secures and protects the property’s assets, including facilities and equipment. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: The Assistant Chief Engineer will make work assignments, monitor work of others and take action as needed to accomplish assignments or projects in a timely manner and within budget.  Assist in training new personnel and act as a technical resource to all personnel in the department.  In the absence of the Chief Engineer, the Assistant Chief will take responsibility for the Engineering Department.  

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School degree or equivalent vocational training required. 
  • 3+ years’ experience in a Property Operations/Engineering department, preferably within a resort setting.
  • 2+ years of management / supervisory experience.
  • Must have working knowledge of a Personal Computer. 

Certifications: (preferred but not required):

  • Certified Pool Operator - Pool Water
  • Class 4 Water Operator – Well Water
  • EPA 608 Refrigerant Operator – Refrigerant
  • Underground Storage Tank Certified A & B Operator – Underground Gas Tanks
  • Class 3 Waste Water Certified – Waster Water

Working knowledge of: 

  • plumbing codes
  • electrical codes
  • national/local fire codes
  • local mechanical codes
  • water treatment program
  • blueprints and plumbing and wiring schematics
  • power and hand tools, meters, etc. as it relates to the technical trades
  • knowledge of all mechanical equipment critical to the operation of the building.
  • HVAC or Electrical experience preferred
